James "Mitch" K Mitchell, Sr.

James K. Mitchell, Sr., 84, a resident of Rye Brook, NY died September 20, 2016. He was born April 2, 1932 in Port Chester to the late Andrew and Anne Barz Mitchell. He attended Port Chester High School. Mr. Mitchell served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954 in the Korean War and was a combat veteran.  He was part of the Honor Platoon upon graduating basic training. He was also the recipient of a Presidential Unit Citation while serving in Korea, along with other citations, including combat action ribbon, Korean Service, USMC Good Conduct.  On June 8, 1958 he married Theresa Tedesco at Our Lady of Mercy Church.  He was a retired construction worker for Franco Brothers in Greenwich, CT for 40 years until his retirement in 1994.  He is survived by his wife Theresa Mitchell, of Rye Brook, NY., son James K. Mitchell, Jr. and his wife Terri, his adored grandchildren “Mrs.” Kristin Mitchell, James K. Mitchell, III and George Mitchell all of Port Chester, NY. Visitation will be 4-8PM Thursday September 22, 2016 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10AM on Friday September 23, 2016 at Our Lady of Mercy Church 260 Westchester Ave. Port Chester, NY   Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery Rye Brook, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital Memphis, TN.
