Lorrayne D. Cuozzo, a long-time resident of Port Chester, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 22. She was 88 years old. Mrs.Cuozzo was born in Peekskill, the eldest of five children, to parents George and Marjorie Dunnigan. After completing high school there, she attended Grasslands School of Nursing in Valhalla, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She began her nursing career at what is now the Westchester Medical Center Hospital. In 1950, Mrs. Cuozzo married Anthony Anzalone, and worked as an RN while caring for her husband and three children. She gained employment as a nurse at United Hospital in Port Chester, and continued nursing there. Widowed in 1967, Mrs. Cuozzo continued to work and raise her children, with assistance from her (late)sister-in-law, Martha Anzalone. In 1972, Mrs. Cuozzo married Daniel Cuozzo, but was widowed again two years later. While still working full time as a nurse, she elected to return to college and complete the coursework for a Bachelor of Science degree, which she earned from Pace University in 1981. She received numerous awards and accolades for her nursing excellence while employed at United Hospital. Mrs. Cuozzo retired from her nursing position at United Hospital in 1991, but returned there frequently as a volunteer. Mrs.Cuozzo was a devout member of Our Lady of Mercy church in Port Chester. She was an active member of the Altar Society there, and wasalso involved with the Catholic Daughters of America for many years,holding various leadership positions. Mrs. Cuozzo enjoyed being a Twig member, and participated in a variety of charitable endeavorswhich they sponsored. She was also committed to maintaining her own health and well-being, and swam regularly at the Rye YMCA for more than 20 years.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Cuozzo was devoted to her family, always putting their own needs first. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, knitting, and reading, and was very proud of her Irish ancestry.
Mrs.Cuozzo is survived by her sister Michelle Rocco, her brother Colin Dunnigan, and her children: Mary “Teri” Anzalone (spouse of Fred Penichet) of Rye, Anthony “Mick” Anzalone of Tucson, Dan Cuozzo of Chattanooga, and Tracey Anzalone (spouse of John VanStekelenburg) of Vancouver, BC.
Visitation will be 5-9PM on Friday November 28, 2014 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial  will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Our Lady of Mercy Church 260 Westchester Ave. Port Chester, NY. Interment to follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery Rye Brook, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
