William "Bocker" John Hanssler, 84, of Greenwich, CT. passed away peacefully at his home on May 5, 2017. Born in Port Chester, NY on January 15, 1933 to John and Rosalie Killilea Hanssler.  Bill graduated from Port Chester High School class of 1950, enlisted in the US Air Force at the start of the Korean War, and served with the 626th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron, Fire Island, Alaska until honorably discharged April 1954, He returned to Port Chester, NY and began his career with Bell Atlantic Telephone Company as a "lines man", moving through the ranks, and many company name changes until his retirement in Aug. 1991.  Bill was proud to serve with the Port Chester Cub Scouts including Scout master for 4 years and continued to volunteer later in his life serving Greenwich, CT. including 12 years with Meals on Wheels and 10 years as Handicap Chairman of the Griff Golf Course Men's Club. He loved fishing salt water and fresh. He had a lifelong passion for boating the Long Island Sound, enjoyed relaxing visits to Greenwich's Grass Harbor, Todd's Point and Byram Shore with his wife Joan.  Bill's wife of 34 years Joan A Fernandes Hanssler sadly passed away May 6, 2017. He is survived by her children JoAnn Rispoli and Jeff Fernandes., 2 daughters Carolyn Naso and husband Stephen of Somers, MT. and Marilyn Beal and husband Jeff of Austin, TX., 3 sons William Hanssler and wife Karen of Norwalk, CT., John Hanssler and wife Margaret of Parker, CO. and Steven Hanssler and wife Eniko of Greenwich, CT., sisters Joan Pappas and Barbara Cuddy, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 3-6:30PM on Tuesday May 9, 2017 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. Funeral service will follow at 6:30PM at the funeral home. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
