Due to the pending snowstorm for Monday March 4, 2019. The funeral mass and burial for Mrs. Kowalski has been rescheduled for Tuesday March 5, 2019 at 9:30AM
Elena Kowalski, age 94 and a resident of Port Chester for 55 years, died February 22, 2019 in Sarasota, Florida. She was born November 25, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Leopold DeBiasi and Rose Risano DeBiasi. She was the widow of Mr. Frederick Kowalski former Superintendent of Port Chester Schools. She was a graduate of St. John's University. Elena was employed by Allied Department Stores in their New York City headquarters. She enjoyed her 13 year career, as a Senior Buyer of accessories. She retired to raise her family, support the Port Chester community and the expanding Port Chester School System. For many years Elena was a member of several civic organizations, Ceres Garden Club, the Republican Party Board of Elections, the Twigs of Rye and volunteer groups in the community. Elena was very artistic and creative. Her interest included gardening, flower arranging, artesian crafts and entertaining. She loved to decorate the house for the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. Many relatives and friends looked forward to and enjoyed those festive celebrations at the Kowalski house. Elena was a very accomplished cook and baker. Appetites were never disappointed...especially the dessert lovers. She would spend days making Christmas cookies. The dessert table was always overflowing. All her recipes have gotten passed down to Kathleen and Kimberly and eventually Serena Rose. So her traditions will lovingly live on.
She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Esposito, son Frederick R. Kowalski, granddaughter Kimberly Marie Sinapi, great granddaughter Serena Rose Sinapi and grandson Alexander Kowalski.
Elena's love for her family will always remain in our heart's and soul's. We love you Mom and Nana.
