Mary Josephine Carlton Johnson (Jo) passed away peacefully on April 20, 2017.  JoJo, as she was known to her grandkids, was born January 10, 1920 in Dyersburg Tennessee.  As a young woman, she worked at a nearby Army Air Force base outside of Dyersburg during World War Two where she met her husband to be, Bernhardt James “Johnny” Johnson.  They were married soon after the war and remained married until Johnny’s death 53 years later. Jo became a housewife and a mother, raising three children- Stephen, JoAnn and Jennifer. From her small town roots in Tennessee, JoJo went on to live in Jackson, MS, New Orleans, LA, Rye Brook, NY and, finally, Juno Beach, FL.

Jo was active in Newcomers Club, various charity organizations, and women’s golf at Westchester Country Club and later at Turtle Creek Club in Florida.  Throughout her 53 years of marriage and following their retirement in 1982, Jo and Johnny travelled extensively around the world.  Through it all, Jo remained that downhome gal from Dyersburg. A warm and loving mother, wife, aunt and a devoted friend.  She was known for her humor, her playful and personable nature, her skills in the kitchen, her independence and determination.  She enjoyed dancing, playing bridge, bowling, sewing and playing golf, but most of all, she simply liked being with others.
She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Sanchez, and her husband Steve, as well as their children, Jessica, Steven and daughter in law, Shawn.  And also by her son, Stephen, and his wife, Margery.  She suffered the loss of her youngest daughter, Jennifer, in 1977 and her husband Johnny in 1999. We all greatly mourn the passing of this wonderful woman who gave us so much.
The family will received friends 11:30AM on Thursday April 27, 2017 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. a funeral service will follow at 12 Noon at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery Rye Brook, NY.
