Rocco Lagana “Poppy Boom Boom”died peacefully in Sun City West, AZ. He was formerly of Greenwich, CT on February 22, 2017 at the age of 91.

Rocco is survived by his son, Rocco J. Lagana of The Bronx, NY (fiancé Susie Lombardi), daughter Lina Murphy of Greenwich, CT (husband Tom), along with eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Mary (Ambrogio) in 2001 of Sun City West and his daughter Angie Amarillo of Bethel, CT (Edgar) in 2013, as well as his brother Giuseppe and his three sisters Antonia, Santa and Giovanna all of Port Chester, NY.

Rocco was born on August 12, 1925 in Scilla, Reggio Calabria, Italy to Angela Morabito and Rocco Lagana. Rocco proudly served for the Italian Army as a teenager. He left school at a young age to support his family due to the death of his father.

Rocco married Mary Ambrogio in 1953, in her hometown of Oliveto, Reggio Calabria, Italy. After moving to the United States in 1954, Rocco began working for Lifesavers Candy Company in Port Chester, NY as a mechanic. Over the next several years, the couple welcomed three children into their home. He was a hard worker and dedicated family man.

Rocco was accomplished not only as a skilled mechanic and father; he was also an avid hunter. He loved the outdoors and showed his affinity by spending much of his family time enjoying outdoor activities. He was especially proud of his garden and fig trees. He was a witty and dedicated individual who loved helping family in any way he could. Rocco sponsored his two sisters, Giovanna and Santa, as well as his younger brother Giuseppe, to live in the USA. He was an active and dedicated member of the Italian Club and Sportsman’s Club of Sun City West, and was also an active member of the NRA.
