Ruby Mae (Summers) Peterson

Ruby Mae Peterson, 91, a longtime resident of Rye Brook died June 16, 2019. She was born October 24, 1927 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Hallie Lee and Mabel Scales Summers. She was raised and educated in Winston-Salem.  Mrs. Peterson was married to George Peterson Sr. on March 1, 1947 in Port Chester. Mr. Peterson died May 10, 1994.  She was a Teacher Aide for many years at the Park Avenue Elementary School in Port Chester.  Mrs. Peterson was a former board member of the Port Chester YMCA and was a devoted foster mother to many children.  She is survived by her beloved children, George Peterson, Jr. of Rye Brook, NY., Rosalind Woodberry and husband James of Greenburgh, NY., Felicia Peterson of Carmel, NY., and Kerrie Simmons and husband Eric Simmons of Greenburgh, NY., dear grandmother to Leslie Holman, Stephanie Peterson, James A. Woodberry Jr., Jenai Woodberry, Brandon Peterson, Jasmine Peterson, Eryk Simmons, Elijah Simmons and Alexys Simmons, great grandmother of Zoe Woodberry, Silas Woodberry and Isaiah Peterson.  She was the sister of Lucy Brooks of Louisiana and foster mother to Deborah Clemons of Yonkers, NY., Robert Clemons of Stamford, CT., Michael Clemons of White Plains, NY., Wayne Fitts of Queens, NY and Ricky Debnam of North Carolina. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her daughter in law Carmen Peterson and brothers Hallie Lee Jr., Charles, David and Hillard Summers, sisters Ruth Reich and Betty Jean Pinkney.  Visitation will be 4-8PM on Thursday June 20, 2019 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. Funeral service will be 11AM on Friday June 21, 2019 at the funeral home.  Interment to follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery Rye, NY. Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Peterson may be made to the Carver Center 400 Westchester Ave. Port Chester, NY 10573 www.carvercenter.org
