Aleyamma Alexander, 76, a resident of White Plains, NY, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, at home surrounded by her family.

She was born on March 2, 1950, in Vengoor, Kerala, India, to the late Chirackal Paily Varkey and Ellamma (Mandapathil) Varkey and grew up in Meempara. She received her nursing degree in Bombay, India.

On April 11, 1977, she was married at Parumala Church, to Pazhayidathu Chandy Alexander ('Sunny'), from Vanmazhy, Pandanad near Chengannur.

Aleyamma dedicated over five decades of her life to nursing, working as a registered nurse in Tripoli, Libya, where her children were born, before immigrating to the US in 1983 and continuing her career at King Street Nursing Home, United Hospital and Port Chester Nursing Home in Port Chester, NY, where they lived for over three decades. Her compassion, impressive work ethic, strength, and unwavering commitment to caring for others defined her professional legacy.

She was a devoted daughter, sister, friend, and wife, a loving mother, cherished grandmother, and faithful member of St. George Orthodox Church, Port Chester, where she was an active and beloved parishioner. Her passions included vegetable gardening, cooking, and remaining physically active, which included gym sessions, daily walks, yoga and swimming. She had a genuine love for life, which included a positive outlook, an open and friendly demeanor, and a beautiful and inviting smile. She was an exemplar of time-honored Nasrani hospitality, consistently regaling her guests with delicious home-cooked spreads of food and graciousness. Aleyamma had unwavering grit and determination to achieve her goals whether professional or personal, large or small.
