Barbara Leon Obituary

Barbara A. León was born September 18, 1967 in Plainview, Town of Oyster Bay, NY to Edward Cornwell and Carolyn Kerney. After a long battle with cancer, she passed away on November 25th, 2020.

Barb loved her family more than anything else. She loved visiting her extended family in Atlanta (the Childress’), Orlando (Papi & Nana León), and London (the Hoppers). Barb took great joy in sending her nieces and nephews toys for their birthdays and special events. She was happiest during the holidays, starting with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, and truly enjoyed decorating the house for Christmas and New Year’s. Barb also enjoyed the yearly holiday dinner with her beloved Aunt Betty and Uncle Ralph (the Riccios). Barb was a teetotaler, but would make an exception for her Christmas Baileys Irish Cream.

Barb loved to travel and see the world. In 2016 for their 25th anniversary, Barb and her husband Lou celebrated on a cruise to the Bahamas.  When Lou and Barbara got married, one of her wishes was to travel to London and in 2018 Lou made that dream come true.  Later that year, she went back to London and Paris with her daughter Victoria.  For her, every family trip was special whether it was Florida, Lake George, or Cape Cod.

Her greatest joy was just being with Lou, whether it was watching Netflix together on the couch or just going shopping and eating at buffets together on the weekends.

During her cancer battle, her most important goal was to watch Victoria graduate from SUNY Cortland and her son Luis Jr. earn his wings and graduate U.S. Air Force Pilot Training, both of which she achieved.

Once covid-19 vaccines control the pandemic, the family plans on holding a celebration of life event. Working in the medical field, the last thing Barbara wanted was an event that would facilitate covid-19 infections. Barbara was a long-time employee of ONS Orthopedic and Neurosurgery Specialists in Greenwich, CT. She loved her “work family” and was passionate about helping patients. She is survived by her husband, Luis X. León Sr., son Luis X. León Jr., and daughter Victoria E. León.
