Daniel Williams Obituary

Daniel L. Williams

Born April 3, 1951, to Daniel Williams and Annie Lorraine Williams Kelly. Daniel Williams was a phenomenal man! He was a warm-hearted person who had a distinguished career in the Westchester County Corrections Department in Valhalla, NY. He retired in 2000.  Daniel was a member of the Reliance Engine & Hose Company #1 of the Port Chester Volunteer Fire Department, before retiring and pursuing the managing of his private businesses that included real estate. Daniel was a wise man that enjoyed his family and friends, always ready with a kind, encouraging word and a helpful hand.

Born in Wade, North Carolina, Daniel was the oldest of seven siblings. His bond with his family was the reason that he sought to improve his life and set an example of hard work and determination.  He and his brother David walked through this life together as they would pursue similar interests such as riding motorcycles. It was common to see Daniel traveling from New York to his native North Carolina for family events, family reunions, and just to “check in.”

On June 30, 1972, Daniel was blessed to marry the love of his life, future business partner and mother of his children, Hazel West Williams. Their love affair span more than 50 years and it was reflected in the lives of their son and daughter, Desha, and Danielle. No father was prouder than Daniel as before his untimely death, like his parents, Desha pursued the path of an entrepreneur and Danielle has a distinguished career as a Project Manager. Daniel has a granddaughter Tehya and a grandson Nygee who will carry their grandfather’s entrepreneurial spirit and love for life from generation to generation.

After Daniel retired from his career as a correctional officer, it was normal to see him working at the voting booth locations, taking delivery jobs to help those that were in need, discussing real estate opportunities with his close friend Don Worthy, going on vacation with his sweetheart Hazel, or going to check on his daughter in Atlanta. Daniel enjoyed his passions that included visiting a casino or two to pass the time and making the most of his life, as he loved his family and friends. He was a man who would speak what was right, defend the defenseless and offer hope to those who were downtrodden.

Whereas he was preceded in death by his father Daniel Williams, his son Desha Williams, and his brother Ernest Williams, he leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Mrs. Hazel West Williams, his daughter Danielle T. Williams, his mother Annie Williams, his granddaughter Tehya Ruiz, his grandson Nygee T. Mitchell-Williams, four brothers David, Jerry, Larry, James, and his sister Shirley. He also has four sisters in law to include Mary, Delilah, Deloris, Hermenia, and two brothers in law, Herbert, and Charles.

Mr. Daniel L. Williams, 71, a resident of Port Chester, NY entered eternal life on March 24, 2023. Daniel lived a life full of hard work, love for his family and friends and a dedication to enjoying life! His presence will be remembered by all of those that knew him, and his love will be felt in the heart of his family and friends for years to come. May he rest in the reality of a life well lived, service to all, and dedication to his family.
