Domenica Giannone Obituary

Domenica (Sgroi) Giannone, also known as Mimma, 76, a resident of Greenwich, CT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 12, 1949, in the seaside town of Scilla, Reggio Calabria, Italy, to the late Nicola Sgroi and Angelina Galletta Sgroi.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bartolomeo, her brother-in-law Joseph Mortelliti, and her nephew Christopher Sgroi. She is survived by her beloved children, Cynthia Colaiacovo and her husband Steve, of Yonkers, NY, and John Giannone and his wife Jennifer of Fairfield, CT., and her treasured grandchildren, Gabriella, Giancarlo, and Marco, who were her constant source of joy. Domenica is also survived by her brothers and sisters – Peter Sgroi and his companion Deborah, Tony Sgroi and his wife Kathy, Sara Mortelliti, Grace Degenhardt and
her husband George, Josephine Racaniello and her husband Gary; and her extended family – her brother-in-law Mimmo Giannone and his wife Grace, and brother-in-law Gaetano Giannone and his wife Anna.

She is also survived by countless nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly– Joseph, Daniela, Nicole, Jennifer, John, Rosalia, Jessica, Jackie, Tina, Giovanni, and Francesca.Domenica was raised and educated in Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1963. On October 5, 1969, she married the love of her life, Bartolomeo, and raised their family in Brooklyn, NY, and later moved to Port Chester, NY in 1975. Lastly, in July 2004, they moved into their forever dream home in Greenwich, CT.

Domenica was a passionate cook, and her kitchen was the heart of our family. She expressed her love through food at Sunday dinners and proudly carried on these family traditions, passing them down to her three grandchildren, who were her greatest blessings.

For many years, Domenica was a staple of Feinsod Hardware, where her kindness and familiar face made her known to so many in the community. Domenica embraced every season of life alongside her beloved
husband, finding tremendous joy in winters spent in Jupiter, Florida, and summers in her hometown of Scilla, Italy, where they shared unforgettable moments with wonderful friends in both places.

Domenica leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and cherished memories that will live on through generations. Her love, kindness, and memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who crossed her path. But most of all, Domenica is now at peace, reunited joyfully in Heaven with her one true love.
