Frank Gendalia, 89, a lifelong resident of Port Chester and former Chief of Police for the town of Rye and the Village Rye Brook, NY died October 18, 2023. He was born August 22, 1934 in Port Chester to the late Henry and Christine Roberto Gendalia. Frank was raised and educated in Port Chester and was a graduate of Port Chester High School. He was married April 25, 1954 to Marilyn Santoro at Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester. In 1957 Frank became a police officer with the Town of Rye; later in 1970 to become the first Police Chief of the Town of
Rye. When the Village of Rye Brook was formed, Frank was sworn in as the first Chief of Police for the Village in June of 1983. He retired from the police department in1991. While he was a Rye Town Police Officer he attended and graduated from The F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, VA. Frank was a member and twice president of the Westchester County Chief of Police Association.
After his retirement from law enforcement, Frank joined his lifelong friend at the Gunipero Funeral Home in Port Chester.
He was a parishioner of the Saint Paul Catholic Church in Greenwich, Ct. Always civic minded, Frank was a member of the Port Chester Rotary Club, the 40/40 Club, the Port Chester Old Timer's Association, The Port Chester Knights of Columbus, The Port Chester Kiwanis Club and a member of the Port Chester/Rye Town PBA.
Frank was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Frank’s joy and love for his family was immense. He always took true pleasure in making his friends and family laugh. Frank had vast talents with special interest in landscaping and home improvements setting a high bar for his family to follow.
He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn Santoro Gendalia of Port Chester, NY., son Frank Gendalia, Jr. of Port Chester, NY., daughters Christy Gendalia of Rye Brook, NY. and Rosemary Matthews and her husband Gene of Port Chester, NY., and his adored grandchildren Ryan Matthews and his wife Jacki of Livingston, NJ., Alexandra Paterno and her husband Brett of Chappaqua, NY. and Justine Silagi and her husband Alex of Livingston, NJ., great grandchildren Brayden Matthews, Tyler Matthews, Camden Paterno, Hunter Paterno and Graham Silagi.
He was predeceased by his brother Henry Gendalia, Jr. and sister Celia Archino.
Visitation will be 4-8PM on Friday October 20, 2023 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30AM on Saturday October 21, 2023 at Saint Paul RC Church 84 Sherwood Ave. Greenwich, CT. Interment to follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery North St. Rye, NY
