Jack J. Zaccara of Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 25, 2025.
Born in Manhattan on December 29, 1948, to Jack and Gladys (Mathes) Zaccara, Jack was raised in the Bronx—a fact that forever fueled his lifelong love of the New York Yankees.
Jack attended Iona University and Western Connecticut State University, where he earned his teaching degrees. His remarkable 50-year career in education began in 1972 in the Port Chester School District, where he taught science, social studies, and astronomy, and served as director of the district’s planetarium.
After retiring from the classroom, Jack continued to share his passion for learning as a national trainer and educator for the Anti-Defamation League and as director of education for One World United and Virtuous.
In 2016, Jack and his wife Jeanine retired to Lewes, Delaware, where he continued teaching English as a Second Language.
Jack was deeply involved in his community—as a proud Rotarian, an ordained Deacon and Elder at All Souls Presbyterian Church, and a lifelong advocate for civil rights and global citizenship. He was an exceptional cook which was both a gift and a passion.
Jack is lovingly survived by his wife, Jeanine (Marino) Zaccara, of Port Chester, NY, and Lewes, DE; his son Patrick Zaccara, Lisa Toulan, and granddaughter Elowyn June Zaccara; his daughter Carly (Ippolito) Coriano and her husband Rey Coriano; Juliana (Ippolito) Bryant and her husband Seth Bryant; and Jason Ippolito and his wife Natalia (Babula) Ippolito. He is also survived by his brother Dan Zaccara and sister-in-law Sammie Zaccara, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jack’s warmth, humor, and dedication to others will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
In celebration of Jack’s life and legacy, family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering 4-8PM on Friday November 21, 2025 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. A memorial service will follow on Saturday, November 22, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 716 King Street, Rye Brook, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s memory to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), an organization that reflects his lifelong commitment to equality and justice.
