Jerry M Cottongin, Jr., 32, a resident of Bronx, NY and formally of Decatur, AL, died on July 15, 2022, his sister’s birthday and gave her the gift of writing his obituary. He was born on October 27, 1989 in Fort Stewart, GA to Victoria Cottongin and Jerry Cottongin. He holds an Associate’s Degree in CIS, Networking Technology from John C Calhoun State Community College.
JJ considered himself a “professional tech nerd”, according to his LinkedIn profile. He excelled at resolving Facebook hacker issues for family and friends. He was an inspirational quoter on Instagram and took better selfies than his sisters.
JJ loved NYC. You could often FaceTime him running through the parks with his shirt off. He enjoyed showing off doing pull ups for a crowd or dancing and moonwalking through the streets. His favorite selfie spots were with mural artwork throughout the city, rooftop restaurants or the Brooklynn Bridge.
He didn’t meet a stranger. He provided lots of emotional support to those in need and built lasting friendships. He was talented at making people laugh and would consider himself the only funny one of the family.
JJ is survived by his mother, Victoria Cottongin, father, Jerry (Eugenia) Cottongin; grandmother, Wanda Cottongin; sisters Jennifer (Keith) George, Connie Cottongin; nephews Zac (Sloan) Free, Colten Clark; niece Bryanna (Chris) Fagan; and a host of extended family and friends that are really mad and sad about this.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday July 20, 2022 at Eternal Life Ministries 1526 NE Thompson Rd. Decatur, AL 35603. Friends will gather at 5;30Pm with a service to begin at 6:00PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Eternal Life Ministries or to the Salvation Army of Huntsville, AL.
