Joseph Carriere Obituary

Joseph Rocco Carriere, 82, passed away peacefully in his home on January 31, 2022. He was born on October 17, 1939 to Vincenzo (Jimmy) and Carmela (Telesco) Carriere. He graduated from Port Chester High School in 1958. He entered the US Navy and was a member of the SeaBees. Joe married his “bride” Maryann (Nazarenko) on June 22, 1968. Together they raised 4 children, James (Patrizia Ciciriello), Andrea (Sam Giordano), Carmel (Vinnie Natter) and Sara (tbd) in the house next door to his childhood home. He is survived by his wife, children, 6 grandchildren: Christina and Sophia Carriere, Lucia and Santo Giordano, Caroline and Vincent Carriere, his granddog Scrappy Doodle, as well as his Pennsylvania in laws (and“Outlaws”) Andrea and David Maille, Grace and Tom Mielczarek, Andrew Nazarenko, Michele and Joe Sabie, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his many cousins from the Carriere and Telesco/Sabato family, with whom he was very close. Joe was predeceased by his parents, his brother William, his father and mother in law, Andrew and Rose Nazarenko and his sister in law Rosemarie Nazarenko.in 1968, Joe and his father started J & B Trucking. In 1973, they created James Carriere & Sons Inc., of which he was President, and he worked alongside his brother Bill until 2015. Joe loved riding his Harley and spending summers sitting by his palm trees, in his patio, with family and friends. Everyone was always welcome at “The Compound” and Joe always enjoyed a good party. Joe continued the tradition of attending mass on Our Lady Mount Carmel Feast Day (July 16) at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Harlem, New York, as his grandfather and father did before him. Christmas Eve was his favorite holiday as it was a time when the family came together to celebrate the Italian tradition of the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Joe was the life of the party and loved when he was surrounded by his family.
Per Joe’s request, no tears are to be shed as he “had one hell of a ride!” The family knows Joe is now celebrating by drinking some “John” (Jack) Daniels Whiskey, with his best friend since high school, Frank DeSimone. He is having a blast with all of the friends and family who have passed before him. There will be no services at this time as Joe requested a party at the
Compound (to be held over the summer).
