Joseph Louis Holden of Port Chester, New York died peacefully on December 18, 2024, at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, NY.
Joe was born April 13, 1947, to Brendan C. and Caroline M. Holden of Rye, New York and moved in early adulthood to Port Chester where he had resided since. Joe is predeceased by both parents, siblings William Holden and Moira Varbero, and sister-in-law Cathy Holden. He is survived by his two sons, Luke and Zachary Holden, and daughters-in-law, Diana Pelliccia and Lauren Holden of Greenwich, CT, his siblings Brendan Holden (Marie) of New York, Anthony Holden of Connecticut, Patrick Holden (Myra) of South Carolina, and Brian Holden (Kathy) of Florida. He will also be remembered always by his extended family, Dino and Mary Filancia, and the Jacobs, Pelliccia, and Bassett families.
Joe graduated Archbishop Stepinac High School in 1965 and pursued an undergraduate degree at Manhattan College until being drafted to serve in the Vietnam War. Although Joe chose not to receive military honors on his passing, his tour of duty and pledge to serve his country reflect the way he lived his life; with courage and honor. He returned from his tour of duty to a year of undergrad studies at Iona College.
Joe worked many years at the Fore’n’Aft — a famous rock club — in White Plains where he served spirits to thousands of tri-state patrons and built lasting friendships. Joe’s love and appreciation for music, art, and live entertainment flourished at the Fore’n’Aft; a love that he would carry forward and instill in his sons.
Joe also had a love for logic, problem solving, creativity, and woodworking. He designed and built various pieces of furniture and art with his sons that will be treasured forever, including the arches under which both of his sons were married. Joe's passion for carpentry developed into a 30-year career as the property manager of Gedney Commons Homeowners Association in White Plains. He took great pride in his work and was appreciated and loved by the community. When Joe was not working or spending time with his sons or friends, he could be found at the White Plains Public Library selecting his next collection of books to consume.
Joe also lived an avid spiritual life of example, giving back freely to his fellows with grace, compassion, and integrity. His example helped countless men and women live a life reliant on a higher power, principles, and humility the past 33 years.
Joe’s greatest joy and highest fulfillment was spending quality time with his children any chance that he could. Joe gave all of himself to them, always. Through him, they learned the importance of family, to give freely and generously of themselves, to always look on the bright side, and to live with integrity one day at a time.
He wasn't just an amazing father; he was an incredible human being. His love, wisdom, and strength continue to guide us all. Joe will be remembered for his limitless and unwavering love for his sons, his playful nature and sharp humor, incredibly talented carpentry, and his devotion to helping others. Joe leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, kindness, and warmth that will forever be remembered. His spirit lives on in those he touched, and his legacy will always be a part of us.
