Joseph Thomas Markisz III passed away on Sunday June 15th after courageously battling cancer for six months. He was surrounded by love from his wife Omaris, his sister Laura, his father Joe with his partner in life Maura Cuddy. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Joe was born on June 20th , 1985, to Linda and Joe Markisz and he was a lifelong resident of Port Chester. Growing up he attended Corpus Christi school and then Iona Prep where he graduated as salutatorian of his class. While at Iona he participated in The Experiment in International Living where he was sent to live with a family in another country and immerse himself into the local culture. He did this for two summers, once to Poland and once to Spain. From these two experiences his love for travel, adventure and knowledge of the world was born. He continued his education at NYU where he graduated from the Stern School of Business as a Stern Scholar. While at NYU he continued his quest to experience the world. He studied abroad in London, and while there, explored almost every country in Europe.
After graduation he went into Investment Banking with Bank of America where he prospered for 8 years negotiating many major deals. Upon leaving Investment Banking he moved back home to be with his mother who was also battling cancer. He was a devoted loving son who made sure his mother was always in the best care. During this time, he also became an active partner in the company he started while at NYU, Seal It Sealcoating, working alongside his father. With Joe’s help and business expertise, father and son became successful entrepreneurs and partners.
When his mother Linda Lopes Markisz died on June 26, 2016, a new woman came into his life three weeks later, Omaris Valencia. This was the start of a true love story. They were made for each other, both fun loving, great friends to all, and their sense of adventure & music took them to 10 countries around the world and to numerous
concerts. Joe was Omaris’ biggest cheerleader supporting her in her marathon running, watching and cheering her on in 8 major marathons both in the US and around the world. He would do anything for her and in turn she never left his side throughout his illness. Their love was truly inspiring.
Joe lived life to the fullest. Eager to experience all the world had to offer from culture, to history, music, food and more. He made friends everywhere he went and was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Omaris Valencia, his father Joseph T. Markisz, his partner Maura Cuddy, his sister Laura Darash and her husband John,
nieces and nephews Madeline Darash, Levi Darash, Justyna Darash and Ryan Hall, mother-in-law and father-in-law Alcira Valencia and Marco Valencia and sister-in-law Olidia Hall and her husband Sean along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
