Joseph T. McCarthy, 89, a longtime resident of Rye Brook, NY passed away on April 4, 2025. He was born January 13, 1936 in Yonkers, NY to the late Joseph and Katherine Hayes McCarthy. He was raised and educated in Yonkers graduating from Commerce High School in 1954. Joe proudly served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962. On May 27, 1961, he married Mary Ann Grasso in Tuckahoe, NY.
Joe was a pharmaceutical representative for MeadJohnson Corporation for many years before starting his own business doing alumni fundraising for various colleges. In his retirement, he enjoyed being the bus driver for Rye Brook Senior Center. Joe was a parishioner of the Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester and active with the Rye Brook Seniors.
Joe will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his sense of humor, his love of ice cream and fitting as many people as possible at the Christmas dinner table.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ann McCarthy of Rye Brook, NY., his five children - Thomas McCarthy and his wife Ann Marie of Brewster, NY., Stephen McCarthy and his wife Jane of Wappingers Falls, NY., Marie Elena "Mem" McCarthy and her husband Neil Tanico of Harrison, NY., Michael McCarthy and his wife Eileen of Mahopac, NY., Jeannine Tempesta and her husband Tommy of Rye Brook, NY., and daughter-in-law Lori McCarthy of South Salem, NY. He loved being the doting grandpa to 12 grandchildren - Jane Marie Grandchamp, Kayla McCarthy, Allison McCarthy-Barnes, Joseph McCarthy, Elizabeth McCarthy, Julianna Tanico, Christopher McCarthy, Gianna Tempesta, Sean McCarthy, Charlie Tanico, Natalie Tempesta and Caroline Tanico. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren. Joe was predeceased by his sister Marie Heater.
Visitation will be 10am-12pm on Friday April 11, 2025 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. Funeral service will follow at 12PM at the funeral home. Entombment at Greenwood Union Cemetery North St. Rye, NY.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Rye Brook Senior Center
