Joseph “Giuseppe” Mortelliti, 76, a longtime resident of Port Chester, NY, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was born on September 17, 1949, in the seaside town of Scilla, Reggio Calabria, Italy, to the late Rocco and Giuseppina Cognetta Mortelliti. Raised and educated in Italy, Joseph immigrated to the United States at the age of 25.

 On October 20, 1974, he married Sara Sgroi at Holy Rosary Church in Port Chester, beginning a loving partnership that would span more than fifty years. Joseph worked for many years in distribution at Arnold’s Bakery, retiring in 2015, and was a proud member of the Caridi Club in Port Chester. 

 A gentle and kind soul, Joseph lived his life with humility, working hard to provide for those he cherished most. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sara Mortelliti; his beloved children, Joseph Mortelliti and his wife Jennifer, of Yorktown Heights, NY, and Daniela Rubino and her husband Felice, of Valhalla, NY; and his treasured twin granddaughters, Annalisa and Giada Rubino, the joys of his life. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters—Gregorio and his wife Rosa, Salvatore and his wife Maria, Valentino and his wife Rachela, Maria, Mimma and her husband Gero, and Angela—as well as by his loving extended family: Peter and his partner Deborah; Tony and his wife Kathy; Domenica; Grace and her husband George; and Josephine and her husband Gary, along with many nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply. 

Joseph found tremendous joy in returning to Italy each summer, spending his days in Scilla surrounded by family, familiar streets, and the warmth of the Piazza. He especially cherished Christmas Eve, sharing a holiday meal with his in-laws—a tradition that brought him immense happiness and connection. 

 A proud son of Rocco and Giuseppina, Joseph now rejoins them in heaven, and his family takes comfort in knowing he rests peacefully in their loving embrace. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Corpus Christi Church, 136 South Regent Street, Port Chester, NY. Entombment will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Rye Brook, NY. 

 Joseph will be remembered for his warmth, his quiet compassion, and the steadfast love he offered to all who were blessed to know him. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Joseph “Giuseppe” Mortelliti, 76 anni, residente da lungo tempo a Port Chester, NY, è venuto a mancare serenamente il 7 dicembre 2025, lasciando una preziosa eredità di amore, forza silenziosa e incrollabile dedizione alla sua famiglia.
Nato il 17 settembre 1949 nella cittadina marinara di Scilla, in provincia di Reggio Calabria, era figlio dei compianti Rocco e Giuseppina Cognetta Mortelliti. Cresciuto e formato in Italia, Giuseppe emigrò negli Stati Uniti all’età di 25 anni.

Il 20 ottobre 1974 sposò Sara Sgroi presso la Holy Rosary Church di Port Chester, dando inizio a un’unione amorevole durata oltre cinquant’anni. Giuseppe lavorò per molti anni nel settore della distribuzione presso Arnold’s Bakery, dove rimase fino al pensionamento nel 2015, ed era un orgoglioso membro del Caridi Club di Port Chester.

Anima gentile e dal cuore buono, Giuseppe visse la sua vita con umiltà, lavorando instancabilmente per provvedere alle persone che amava. Lascia nel dolore la sua devota moglie Sara Mortelliti; i suoi amati figli Joseph Mortelliti e sua moglie Jennifer, di Yorktown Heights, NY, e Daniela Rubino e suo marito Felice, di Valhalla, NY; e le sue adorate nipotine gemelle, Annalisa e Giada Rubino, le gioie della sua vita.
È inoltre sopravvissuto dai suoi fratelli e sorelle: Gregorio e sua moglie Rosa; Salvatore e sua moglie Maria; Valentino e sua moglie Rachela; Maria; Mimma e suo marito Gero; e Angela. Gli sopravvive anche la sua amata famiglia allargata: Peter e la sua compagna Deborah; Tony e sua moglie Kathy; Domenica; Grace e suo marito George; e Josephine e suo marito Gary, oltre a numerosi nipoti e pronipoti a cui voleva profondamente bene.

Giuseppe trovava immensa gioia nel tornare in Italia ogni estate, trascorrendo le giornate a Scilla circondato dalla famiglia, dalle strade familiari e dal calore della piazza. Amava in modo particolare la Vigilia di Natale, condividendo il tradizionale pranzo festivo con i suoi cognati—un momento che gli regalava grande felicità e senso di appartenenza.

Figlio orgoglioso di Rocco e Giuseppina, Giuseppe si ricongiunge ora a loro in cielo, e la sua famiglia trova conforto nel sapere che riposa serenamente nel loro abbraccio amorevole.

La visita si terrà mercoledì 10 dicembre 2025, dalle 16:00 alle 20:00, presso Craft Memorial Home, Inc.
La Messa Funebre sarà celebrata giovedì 11 dicembre 2025, alle 10:00, presso la Corpus Christi Church, 136 South Regent Street, Port Chester, NY.
Seguirà la tumulazione presso il Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Rye Brook, NY.

Giuseppe sarà ricordato per il suo calore umano, la sua compassione silenziosa e l’amore costante che ha donato a tutti coloro che hanno avuto il privilegio di conoscerlo. La sua presenza mancherà profondamente, ma il suo spirito continuerà a vivere nei cuori di chi gli ha voluto bene.
