Kochumman T. Jacob was born on the 13th day of May, 1943 in Kerala, India to the late T.C. Jacob and Kunjamma Jacob. Kochumman was the fourth child of 11 siblings (late Chacko T. Jacob, late Mariamma Daniel, Lillykutty Babu, late Varghese T. Jacob, Mathewkutty T. Jacob, Aleyamma Kuttapan, Johnkutty T. Jacob, Jacob T. Jacob, Leelamma Prakash and Rajan T. Jacob) and grew up in Kundara, Kerala. At the age of 18, he joined the Indian Air Force, where he proudly served for 18 years.
Kochumman married Annamma on February 16, 1976. Together, they welcomed two sons, Jobby and Jaison. He settled in New Rochelle, NY in 1979. Soon after, he began a nearly 30-year career with the Metropolitan Transit Authority where he was a supervisor until his retirement. Kochumman was not only an active participant at MTA functions but he was also involved with the Westchester Malayalee Association, FOKANA and St. George Orthodox Church-Port Chester. Through these organizations, he helped give back to the Malayalee and Christian communities and supported various charities in the United States and India.
Kochumman was considered the patriarch of his family. Together with his wife, he helped many get their start in America. Everyone felt great comfort approaching him for advice and support. He took immense pride in seeing his friends and family achieve success.
Kochumman entered into the loving arms of his savior on June 1, 2021. He is survived by his wife Annamma Jacob, sons Jobby (and his wife Rani), Jaison (and his wife Denise) grandchildren William, Mia, Christian and Ava as well as seven surviving siblings.
We will miss his larger than life personality, his leadership, his generosity and the love and support he extended to all those he encountered in this world.
“The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of Lord be praised.” (Job 1:21)
