Lokey Kendall, 87, a longtime resident of Port Chester died July 9, 2022. He was born on August 23, 1934, to the late Johnnie Clifford and Jencie Brittain Kendall in Griffin, Georgia. He was one of thirteen children, five girls-Lucy, Sohana, Amy, Nadine, and Hattie, and nine boys-Hermon, Albert, Linell, Paul, Lokey, Clifford, Fred, and Hercules. He is the last member in his family to fall asleep in death. Looking for a better life, he left working on his father’s farm and came to New York at a young age. Upon his arrival he found work with Panob Corporation, a contract company for the military. He worked his way up to where he became a Panel Maker, specializing in war panels for helicopters, boats, ships, and tanks. He was a loyal employee for over forty years. Upon his retirement from Panob Corporation, he found work as a security monitor and mail person with the Port Chester School District. On April 12, 1974, he married the woman of his affection, and love of his life, Louise Dempson. Together they raised their family of four boys and three girls. He loved going to the airport, watching the planes take-off and land, taking his children on helicopter rides, a good game of cards, going on family trips to Bear Mountain, and sitting on the street in his car, talking to people. In 1976, he began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized in 2004. He would go out in service with his wife and together they would take part in letter writing. He remained faithful to the very end and was loved by a large spiritual family.
He is survived by his four sons: Melvin and his wife Violet; Jeffrey and his wife Rachel; Jerry; Craig and his wife Debbie; three daughters: Mae and her husband Eric; Doris; Marissa and her husband Jon; a sister-in-law, Constance Kendall, the wife of his late brother Fred Kendall, an army of grandchildren, over thirty great-grands, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A graveside service will be held 1:00pm Wednesday July 13, 2022 at Greenwood Union Cemetery North St. Rye, NY
