Mary K. Fox, 93, a resident of Greenwich, CT, died July 22, 2023. She was born September 2, 1929, in Straubville, ND, to the late Aloysius and Althea Holly Dittel, the youngest of five. After the death of her father, she and her mother moved to Port Chester, NY, to be closer to Mary’s older sister, Beatrice, and husband Joe Neri, and she then lived with them following her mother’s passing. Mary graduated from Port Chester High School in 1946 and went on to graduate from Saint Vincent's School of Nursing in New York City, then working as a nurse at United Hospital in Port Chester. She was married on December 24, 1950, to Eugene Fox at Holy Rosary Church in Port Chester, and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage together until Mr. Fox's death in 2019. Mary was a devoted wife and mother of three, a proud parishioner of Corpus Christi Church, and a very active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Connecticut Chapter, serving as the state’s Treasurer. She loved cooking, baking, researching her family’s ancestry, and watching sports–especially the UConn women’s basketball team, the Yankees, and the Golden State Warriors. Her friends and family will miss her quick wit, her midwestern sensibilities, her mashed potatoes, and her peanut butter cookies, among many other things. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret (Fox) and Victor Diaz of Port Chester, NY, Clare Fox of Greenwich, CT, and Philip Abenavoli of Greenwich, CT. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Fox, in 2019, and beloved daughter, Kathryn Abenavoli, in 2016. She will be missed greatly by her grandchildren, Ann (Diaz) and husband Richard Harnett, Christina Diaz, Mark Diaz and wife Rebecca, Rachel Abenavoli, Victoria Diaz, and Stephen Abenavoli, her great grandchildren Ryan Harnett, Oliver Diaz, and Christopher Diaz, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
