Richard "Coach" Pappalardo, 92, a resident of Rye, NY and formerly of Port Chester, NY died February 25, 2025. He was born June 30, 1932 in Port Chester, NY to the late Peter and Mildred Dechiara Pappalardo. He was raised and educated in Port Chester graduating from Port Chester High School, He received his BS from Manhattan College in Physical Education, his MA in Guidance and Student Personnel from Columbia University and his graduate work at New York University. He was a longtime teacher at Port Chester High School and a football coach throughout Westchester County including Port Chester High School, Riverside High School, Rye High School, Somers High School, Roosevelt High School, Lincoln High School, Harrison High School, Scarsdale High School and also Columbia University.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam War and served 35 years in The United States Army Reserve and retired as a Colonel.
Coach was a parishioner of the Saint Paul RC Church in Greenwich, Ct and was a member of the American College Football Coaches Association, Westchester County Football Officials Association, American College Baseball Coaches Association, Phi Epsilon Kappa Honor Fraternity.
He is survived by his sister Ursula Lombardi of Danbury, Ct. nephew Whitney McBride, MD of Goldens Bridge, NY., nieces Elizabeth Dulin of Florida, Meg Pelligrino of Georgia and Avenne McBride, JD of San Francisco, CA.
He was predeceased by his longtime partner Susan A. Covino.
Visitation will be 4-8PM on Saturday March 1, 2025 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be announced at a later time with interment to follow.
Memorial donations in memory of Coach may be made to Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital Memphis TN.
