Richard (Ricky) Alan Bernard was born and raised in Port Chester, NY. A longtime resident of the Bronx, he passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 3, 2026. He was 72.
Ricky was born on August 14, 1953 to the late Nannie Gundy Bernard and George Bernard. For his entire career before retiring, he worked as a Produce Clerk for Finast and Stop & Shop Supermarkets, and he was a proud and active member of his union.
Ricky was an avid sports fan who especially loved the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He enjoyed supporting his children’s and granddaughters’ sports teams over the years. Throughout his life, he loved bowling and playing baseball/softball. Ricky also enjoyed traveling, particularly to Caribbean beaches, and spending time visiting casinos where he liked to play the slot machines.
Ricky had a warm and ready smile, and a great sense of humor. He was a “gentle giant”, a steady and dependable presence for those he cared about, and the person who always showed up. He loved his family, and was loved by his family beyond measure.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Pearl (Cherry) Nelson Bernard of the Bronx, NY; his beloved children, Kerri Bernard James of White Plains, NY, Kristy Bernard Tsadick of Redwood City, CA, and Richard Bernard Jr. of the Bronx, NY; and his cherished grandchildren, Mariah Tsadick and Eliana James. He is also survived by his siblings, Janice Bernard and George Bernard Jr., both of Delaware, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. Ricky was predeceased by his sister, Deborah (Debi) McLean of Port Chester, NY.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, at Craft Memorial Home, 40 Leicester Street, Port Chester, NY 10573.
