Robert Riehl Obituary

Robert W. Riehl, 96, a lifelong resident of Port Chester died March 7, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.  He was born September 26, 1925 in Port Chester to the late Fred and Margaret Pugmire Riehl.  He was raised and educated in Port Chester leaving school to join the United States Army during World War II where he served in the European Theater and was a Staff Sergeant in the 29th Infantry Division were he was awarded various medals among them two Purple hearts and the Bronze Star  Mr. Riehl was a carpenter having worked for L. Cusamano Carpentry in Port Chester for many years. He was a member of the local carpenters union.  He was married to Elizabeth Shine on October 29, 1950 at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester. Mrs. Riehl died June 21, 2006.  He was a 65 year member of Brooksville Engine & Hose Co. # 5 of the Port Chester Volunteer Fire Department and was the last surviving WWII combat veteran in the department.  He was a past captain and held all firematic and parliamentary offices.  He is survived by his devoted children Robert Riehl, Jr. and his wife Diane of New Fairfield, CT. and Nancy Cassone of Port Chester, NY., his grandchildren Jamie Riehl of Danbury, CT., Shauna Yeager of California, Michalan Sheehan of Brookfield, CT., Jenny Baltz and her husband Dennis of Wilton, CT., Christian Cassone of Port Chester, NY., and Eric Cassone of Rye Brook, NY., great grandsons Kevin Baltz,Trevor Baltz and Owen Sheehan. Besides his wife he was predeceased by his brother Fred Riehl and sister Dorothy R. Hartlieb.
Visitation will be 4-8PM on Sunday March 13, 2022 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM on Monday March 14, 2022 at Saint Paul RC Church 84 Sherwood Ave. Greenwich, CT., Interment to follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery North St. Rye, NY
Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Riehl may be made to the Brooksville Engine & Hose Co. #5 or to the Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital
