Obituary

Ronald J. Pennella, 71, a resident of Rye Brook, NY died July 14, 2023 after a long battle with cancer as the result of exposure at the World Trade Center site. He was born October 21, 1951 to the late Angelo and Mary Ciolli Pennella. He was a graduate from Our Lady of Mercy Grammar School in Port Chester. He graduated from Salesian High School in New Rochelle in 1969 and went on to graduate from the University of Miami in 1973. He received his Masters Degree from Polytechnic University. Ronald was married on August 4, 1979 to Rose Anna Ferretti at Holy Child Jesus Church in Richmond Hill, NY. He worked in the New York City construction industry for over 50 years. He started as a Union laborer with Local 79 and went on to start his own successful company some years later. In 1999 he went to work for Structuretone, Inc where he spent the next 25 years working as a construction project manager. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks he spent 18 months at the World Trade Center site as part of the team that managed the initial recovery and cleanup efforts. His crowning achievement was leading the restoration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. Mr. Pennella was a parishioner of the Parish of Saint John Bosco in Port Chester, NY. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America throughout his life; earning the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop #11 in Port Chester and then helping both his sons attain the same achievement with Troop # 1 in Purchase. He was a member of the CMAA - Construction Management Association of America and past president of the New York Chapter, former member of Local #79 Laborers Union and an adjunct professor at NYU.

He is survived by his beloved wife Rose Anna Pennella of Rye Brook, NY., his dear sons Jared Pennella and his wife Dana of Port Chester, NY and Justin Pennella of Norwalk, CT. His grandchildren Ava Pennella and Luke Pennella, brothers Richard Pennella and his wife Marina of Cos Cob, CT., Rodney Pennella and his wife Mary of Long Branch, NJ., Raymond Pennella of Memphis, TN., sister Allene Mahr and her husband Charles of the Bronx, NY.  He was predeceased by his brother Robert Pennella. Visitation will be 3-7PM on Monday July 17, 2023 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10AM on Tuesday July 18, 2023 at Parish of Saint John Bosco (Our Lady of Mercy) 360 Westchester Ave. Port Chester, NY. Interment to follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery Rye Brook, NY.

Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Pennella may be made to the Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital Memphis, TN.
