Obituary

Scott Spencer, 61, a resident of Portsmouth, RI, entered into eternal rest on September 9, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 2,1962 in Westerly, RI to Robert Spencer and Jacquelyn Barber Spencer. He was raised in Bradford, RI.

Prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy, Scott attended Johnson and Wales in Providence, RI where he discovered his passion in the culinary arts. He took this passion and applied it to a lifelong career in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Culinary Specialist Senior Chief. After 29 years of active duty Scott retired in 2016 but continued working for the Navy as an instructor at The Navy Supply Corps School in Newport, RI. It is here where he discovered his second passion, teaching young sailors and preparing them for the fleet. Although his career took him all over the world, he always said there was nothing like the beaches along the east coast.

Scott was a dedicated Red Sox, Celtics and Cowboys fan. He loved to golf and was an enthusiast of the tv series The Soprano’s. He was generous to a fault, always ready to help or to give to anyone who was in need. Above all, time spent with his family was his greatest joy.

Scott is survived by his devoted wife Jody Federice Spencer, his beloved daughter Sara Bonvino, her husband Angelo and their children Gabriella and Sophia of Port Chester, NY. He is also survived by his brother Robert Spencer of Carolina, RI, sister Kelly Gavitt of Shannock, RI, and sister Cindy Marcotte (David) of Bradford, RI. He was predeceased by his mother Jacquelyn and his son Sage. He also leaves behind a very large extended family of nieces, nephews, brother and sister in laws.

He will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him.

A memorial mass will be held at Church of the Resurrection in Rye, NY on Monday, September 18th at 11:00 A.M.

In remembrance of Scott’s life, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fisher House Foundation at https://connect.fisherhouse.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donate.event&eventID=1.
