Virginia Risio Obituary

We are grateful for the life of Virginia "Ginny" Blunt Risio of Rye Brook, NY who died peacefully on Sept. 16, 2021. After a long and happy life, and a relatively quick decline, she passed in her sleep at Greenwich Hospital, with all the prayers and love of her family and friends.

Born in 1927 in Greenwich, CT, Ginny grew up in Cos Cob, CT with her parents, Nettie and Harry Blunt and her brother, Harry, Jr. She attended Greenwich public schools and then Adelphi University in Long Island, graduating in 1949 with a nursing degree.  Shortly after graduation, she and a few friends crossed the US for a few months as part of a nationwide push to vaccinate people against polio.  It was a grand adventure and set the stage for her lifelong love of travel. She returned home and worked for many years as a nurse in United Hospital in Port Chester, achieving the rank of head nurse in the emergency room. In 1956, at a New Year's Eve party with the White Plains Ski Club, she met her future husband, Chester "Chet" Risio of Port Chester.  They married in 1959 and lived together in Port Chester for over 55 years, and then recently in Rye Brook, until her passing. They travelled the world and hosted many parties and dinners with wonderful friends, and for over 60 years together, skied at Mad River Glen in VT and camped at Lake George, NY.

Ginny was active in many community, church, and civic organizations.  She was very involved at her church, Christ Church in Greenwich, and volunteered for years as a Girl Scout Leader and with the Port Chester Historical Society.  She raised money and gave generously for causes she believed in. She loved music, and sang with the Greenwich Choral Society and the Port Chester Village Singers for many years. She was also an avid gardener.

Ginny is survived by her husband Chet, her daughter Pamela Ferraro of Greenwich, CT (with her husband Vinny and their children Sophia and Victor), and her son Charles "Chuck" Risio of Boalsburg, PA (with his wife Erika and their children Elise and Jack). She was a warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend, and is truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be planned for the future. Memorial donations in memory of Ginny Risio may be made to Christ Church Greenwich, 254 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830
