Steve -- I was shocked to hear the horrific news about your son's sudden and tragic passing. Although I never met Chris, you always spoke so well of him and were obviously so proud of all that he accomplished in his brief time with us. My deepest and heartfelt sympathies to you, Steve, and to the rest of your family.
Love, Claire

Dear Carle, Billy and Kip,

We are deeply saddened to learn about Chris. Our boys all had the opportunity to be coached by him during the early years at Badger and then seeing him as part of summer swimming.

Chris' spirit was evident through his connections and relationships with everyone he encountered. Over the years we particularly noticed the kindness he showed to his swimmers who may still be developing in the pool; he had a way that made them feel as through they were truly champions. Clearly that true desire to help others reach their potential was something that his family, most especially Carle, modeled in so many ways. We will always remember the kindness he showed to our boys: our Chris who needed to be reminded to use his talents, our Matthew who Chris realized needed to be cajoled into swimming another lap, and William who learned early from swimming that you need to keep kicking. We were blessed to have known such a wonderful person. Our thoughts are prayers are you all-
Love,

Dear Carle,

I have no words that might ease the pain you and your family must endure in light of your loss. My only thought is that we are all gifted with too many blessings to count, and that we must remember and be thankful for the joy these blessings have brought us. May you be comforted by reflecting upon the light Christopher has brought to your lives, and may that light shine upon you in your darkest moments.

A donation to Ronald McDonald House in memory of Christopher has been made by The Harbor Seals / Bay Ridge Aquatics Institute. Please accept this tribute as a sincere expression of our deepest sympathy.

I have so many happy memories of Chris; he was one of the joys of my teaching years: the time he gave me a leg to get on a horse and I flew over the other side; we both laughed and laughed in the mud; the time we celebrated his birthday, in Costa Rica, I think, and all sat around the a pool singing happy birthday together; the many times I ran into him in Mt. Kisco and he'd coming running up to me with a big, happy, smile on his face. Those memories will always be with me and always bring happiness with them. I'll miss him, but he'll still be there.

It is really beyond imagining that Chris has passed away. I always looked forward to seeing him - his positive and gentle energy --- the kids cried so much when we told them this terrible news - our daughter said, "every kid liked him and every kid knew that he liked them". What a sad tragedy; he will be so missed. What to say? There is nothing that can aptly state how very sorry we are for you, Carle, Tricia and Billy...

First of all, some of you may be thinking "An administrator from FLHS is going to post something about Chris?"....Anyway, when I reflect upon one of my most memorable students on a personal level, naturally I think of older sister Tricia, who made her mark first. Three things come to mind when thinking about him: (actually four) How intellectually gifted he and his sister are; how passionate this kid was about whatever endeavor he was pursuing, and of course, the role that his mother played in his life. Carle, you were a spirited, loving and unrelenting advocate for your son during his teenage years. This was your job and you did it well. I welcomed the conversations, the visits and the partnership that we had in always trying to do what was best for him. I truly enjoyed listening to Chris explain the rationale and explanations for some of his choices. And yes, my fourth memory would be Chris yelling at me to get Dean Alleyne to stop chasing him around the outside of the building, now that was a classic. Carle ( and Tricia) and I am obviously deeply sorry that I don't know his younger brother, only through Mom, or the mystical and unexplained reason why he is gone. No one can or will ever know what this journey will be like for your family. When you are ready, Sunday, next week, next month or sometime in 2016, I will be here to listen and to assist you in any way I can. If you can at this time, just try to remember or journal or have someone record the truly wonderful, amazing and poignant things that are going to be said about your beloved son and brother these next few days and beyond. . I am convinced you are going to hear from several people that you may not even know. They will share their stories of how Chris inspired them or was there for them and made a difference in their lives. Chris Dewey-he left us way too soon, and he is forever in our hearts. May the prayers and support of this community and the swimming and coaching communities all throughout this region, sustain you now and forever as we mourn.
